Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada (Pauktuutit) is the national representative organization of Inuit women in Canada. Our mission is to foster a greater awareness of the needs of Inuit women and create change to advance women’s full social, economic, and cultural participation in communities in Inuit Nunangat, as well as cities across Canada where Inuit live.   

Pauktuutit, as the national voice of Inuit women in Canada, has a key role to play in ensuring a gender-equality lens in policies impacting Inuit Women and in promoting greater progress in priority areas for Inuit women and children, across health and well-being, violence, and abuse prevention – safety, and socio-economic development. As the Financial Analyst, you leverage your expertise in accounting management and experience with not for profit to have immediate impact with our team. The role is important in supporting the financial elements of project funding; analyzing financial data, preparing reports, and providing valuable insights to support our leadership team and project primes in decision making to support our delivery on project commitments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Generate monthly, quarterly, or annual financial statements and reports; Investigates and understands the period and year-to-date variances (actual vs budget, forecast, prior year) in adherence with month-end schedule.
  • Solve accounting puzzles by researching and reconciling discrepancies and ensure that the accounting is in good order.
  • Maintains QuickBooks Online; Generates reports detailing paid and unpaid invoices and both accounts receivable and payable activity; Ensures revenue and expense accounts are in order
  • Maintains partnerships, networks and relationships with Inuit organizations, communities, partners, and services including maintaining current contact information; and
  • Collaborates with the Manager of Finance to support project financials; provide support to project managers through the length of projects; maintaining Projects folder documents with accuracy for tracking and auditing and communicate project status to Finance Manager to alert of potential variances from plan.
  • Support department managers with project finances; verifies cashflows, assists with funder templates and requests; analyses project financials and ensures managers have understanding of same.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Manager to liaise with funders regarding reporting and point of contact for finance related questions and requirements
  • Assists with preparation of working papers to support Audit Schedule requirements; Assists in gathering information to support Auditors
  • Act as backup for Accounts Receivable to record invoices and payments by entering them into accounting software including the date paid, amount, method of payment and any balance due.
  • Prepare annual government remittances for HST annual returns.
  • Support the preparation of working papers for assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenditure account.
  • Completes ad-hoc requests for information to help internal clients to make evidence-based decisions
  • Other duties as required.

In addition to alignment to Pauktuutit’s core Values, qualifications for success include:

  • Post-Secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field, or an acceptable combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ work experience in finance and accounting, preferably in a not-for-profit environment
  • At least 2 years of experience in a financial analysis role, with data analytics, management reporting, financial planning, and analysis.
  • Experience and understanding of financial modelling tools, financial and internal control frameworks, requirements, reporting and procedures.
  • Data-driven with the ability to analyze and review numbers and trends to support key business decisions.
  • Experience working in a program-based environment is an asset
  • Strategic Thinking with ability to think more broadly for planning purposes, but to also break down the details anticipating emerging trends and leveraging the right resources and tactics to execute the plan.
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills to build relationships quickly, work with people across the political spectrum, and find common ground with those who disagree with you.
  • Taking a project-based approach to work with strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail, with minimal supervision to meet the needs of internal clients; Resourceful, with the ability to prioritize, multitask and meet deadlines with minimal supervision to meet the needs of internal and external clients.
  • Strong business and financial acumen to drive business performance
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills to support partnerships and consultations with business leaders
  • Strong work ethic and sense of responsibility; maintains confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information
  • Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with internal leaders and external stakeholders in an influential and advisory role
  • Technology Savvy with strong proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, and Teams, Excel, Access.
