Reporting to the Director of Policy and Advocacy, the Senior Manager will lead the day-to-day operations of the policy and advocacy team and implement policy strategies to support the organization’s overall goals. Reporting directly to the Director of Policy and Advocacy, this role manages stakeholder relationships, develops policy positions and supports government relations and advocacy initiatives.
Critical to the success of this role is the ability to collaborate with the leadership team to implement best practices and support the planning and execution of the department’s plans and budgets, tracking and managing performance against set priorities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides strategic advice to senior leadership on emerging policy issues and opportunities.
- Provide day-to-day coaching, direction, and leadership to policy managers; includes real-time management, resource performance management and development, facilitating team meetings, escalation resolution, and response.
- Actively participate in one-on-one meetings with director.
- Maintain relevant financial documentation for relevant projects in compliance with approved internal financial procedures and controls.
- Works with Policy Managers and the finance team to coordinate unit reporting with input from various staff members, ensuring quality of information and format for presentation to key stakeholders, including senior leadership and funders.
- Prepares policy briefs, position papers and reports for internal and external audiences.
- Acts as the central resource to the Policy and Advocacy team to track deliverables, and more broadly supports the Policy and Advocacy Director in tracking the strategic plan updates, organizational goals, and objectives.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates projects across the department, including regular activity reports and deliverables.
- Supports report and proposal management, including reading, writing, and editing reports or proposals.
- Collaborate with all team members to ensure consistency and alignment with the broader organizational needs.
- Participate in regular internal/external meetings, conferences, and summits on behalf of Pauktuutit.
- Supports the Director of Policy and Advocacy on an as-needed basis, including providing support to the Policy and Programs business during short-term absences.

Administration:
- Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite, including SharePoint, Teams, and Excel, as well as Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Education:
- A university or college degree in business planning, community development, sociology, gender studies, and/ or other equivalent combination of education and recent relevant work.
Experience:
- 5+ years of prior experience in Policy and Research, planning, and reporting
- Experience managing teams.
- Experience, preferably in a similar environment and preferably in a not-for-profit
- Experience as a policy generalist with general understanding of Pauktuutit’s priority mandates of Health; Social and Economic Development; Violence and Abuse Prevention and Justice.
- Ability to develop positive working relationships within a tight-knit team and build trusted relationships across all levels – stakeholders include departmental leadership, consultants, funders, and community interest groups.
- Self-directed with high business acumen and critical thinking skills.
- Experience collaborating with Inuit and knowledge of current political, social, and economic conditions of Inuit is an asset.
- Strong relationship-building skills with personal credibility and high-impact communication and presentation skills, with experience in senior executive interactions.
- Strong project management; consultation; resource planning and budgeting skills.
- Ability to travel to remote communities as required.
- Language – Fluency in English; working knowledge of Inuktitut (oral and written) is a strong asset.
