The ‘virtual quilt’  is designed to give voice and expression to Inuit women’s unique experiences and lasting impacts of Residential Schools as a national Residential Schools commemoration initiative. This project was recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and was funded by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada. The project, entitled TRC – Virtual Quilt was a project for communities that are interested in producing an art piece that reflects the Inuit experience of Residential Schools. The final outcomes of this project are intended to document and preserve the legacy of these experiences and to help begin a dialogue of reconciliation and healing with all Canadians.

Pilimmaksarniq is the result of a two-year Engaging Inuit Men and Boys in Ending Violence Against Women and Girls project meant to increase awareness and to strengthen coping skills among Inuit men and boys in an effort to reduce gender-based violence within Inuit communities. In late 2012, Pauktuutit was made aware of over 40 cases of Inuit women being trafficked through Ottawa alone. Since learning of this, Pauktuutit has made human trafficking a priority issue in the Abuse Prevention department, and the Board of Directors has held several teleconferences to discuss human trafficking since early 2013.
