Pauktuutit, as the national voice of Inuit women in Canada, has a key role to play in ensuring a gender-equality lens in policies impacting Inuit Women and in promoting greater progress in priority areas for Inuit women and children, across health and well-being, violence, and abuse prevention – safety, and socio-economic development. Our ability to do so depends heavily on partnerships across government departments, key funders, Inuit community groups and other stakeholder organizations.
THE ROLE:
Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Manager of Communications is responsible for developing and executing effective communication and engagement strategies in support of Pauktuutit’s vision and strategic priorities. The Manager will develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners, including executive leadership, community organizations, media, and more. Key to this role currently is supporting Pauktuutit’s transformation towards incorporating Policy and Advocacy work on behalf of Inuit women, girls and gender diverse Inuit. This period of transformation requires excellent self management as well as inspirational leadership in empowering the small communications team and optimizing use of contractors to help drive positive communications innovation and impactful outcomes.
Your areas of responsibility include:
- Develop and lead internal and external communications strategies related to projects that elevates and advances Pauktuutit’s advocacy journey.
- Oversee Pauktuutit’s website and social media platforms; and write or oversee writing, editing and distribution of all major communications content, internally and externally, engaging the senior leadership in final products
- Build and maintain positive relationships with key senior level employees, external vendors and suppliers, partners, community leaders and other advocacy groups to amplify communications
- Act as a project manager to oversee end-to-end planning and execution of communications production schedules, editorial plans, and outreach efforts. This involves working collaboratively with management, subject matter experts and contractors (internal and external).
- Manage communication support services – primarily brand and key message management, website management, design services, translation services, and production services – including contract management and invoicing.
- Manage Pauktuutit’s website and social media platforms; and write or direct writing, editing and distribution of all major communications content, internally and externally
- Respond to media requests by working with subject matter experts to determine appropriate spokespeople and responses.
- Ensure the organization develops and maintains templates and processes to capture knowledge, document communications-related protocols and streamline the delivery of services.
- Support planning, oversight and analysis of consulting requirements to augment the employee base and expertise in critical areas

- A team builder with ability to inspire employees to high performing, strongly engaged teams.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant area of study (communications, journalism, marketing, etc.), supplemented with recent course work in digital marketing, or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a communications role preferably in Not-for-Profit organization in a professional communications environment with experience in social media management and quick response
- Broad experience in all aspects of communications, including media relations, digital management, content creation, community engagement, public relations, social media management
- Experience working with Inuit; and knowledge of the current political, social, and economic conditions of Inuit
- The ability to view and understand issues through a gender-based analysis lens.
- Language – fluency in English and Inuktut (oral and written preferably) and working knowledge of French is an asset
