FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 12, 2019

OTTAWA – Today, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, The Hon. Catherine McKenna, on behalf of the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of International Development and Minister for Women and Gender Equality, announced a $7.4 million investment in 14 women’s and Indigenous organizations. Under the Capacity-building Fund and the Gender-Based Violence Program, Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada will receive $736,903 from 2019 to 2023 for a project titled Strengthening the Inuit Women Sector – Working Together to Build Capacity.

This project will strengthen partnerships and collaboration between Inuit women across the country to help build our capacity, address gaps as well as share promising initiatives. Priority activities will be reaching out to community members to establish an Inuit women’s advocacy network and strategy. Coming together to share the distinct priorities of our communities will strengthen the abilities of Inuit women to advance our rights, needs and priorities and those of our children and families.

“Inuit women are stronger when we work together and help one another. We need to be able to come together to share our ideas, priorities and knowledge so we can continue to grow. We are thankful that our plan to develop an advocacy network for Inuit women has received support and funding from the Government of Canada. Through the continuing efforts of Inuit women and with support such as this, a brighter future is made possible for ourselves, our families and our communities,” said Pauktuutit’s President, Rebecca Kudloo.
