Tuesday March 5, 2013 (Ottawa, ON) Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada will be launching its
Residential School commemoration project on Thursday March 7, 2013. The project, entitled
Nipiqartugut Sanaugatigut TRC – Virtual Quilt incorporates Inuit women’s experiences of
Residential Schools as expressed through art.

Pauktuutit began this project last year and invited individuals, groups, organizations and regions
to create art pieces to contribute to a ‘virtual quilt’ that will serve as an enduring testament to the
Residential School experiences of Inuit women.

The projects, and processes, were documented through video and photographs. The original
pieces will remain in the communities, but they will be shared with Canadians and the world
through a documentary, photo album and an interactive website. This project was made possible
by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development
Canada’s Commemoration Initiative.

Anyone may continue to contribute art about Inuit women’s experience of Residential Schools to
this project, and send their photos and videos to Pauktuutit.

The launch will be held at the Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Québec, by invitation only.
