Ottawa, Ontario – October 10, 2024

Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) from October 8-9, 2024, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ottawa. Board members and delegates from across Inuit Nunangat and urban regions gathered in person to celebrate the organization’s achievements and define a path forward for the years ahead.

During the AGM, the Honourable Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations, attended and announced $510,000 in new federal funding. This funding will launch capacity-building sessions to strengthen advocacy skills among Pauktuutit’s leadership, enhancing their ability to serve Inuit women and gender-diverse individuals.

Natan Obed, President of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK), also addressed the meeting, emphasizing the growing collaboration between Pauktuutit and ITK as they continue their shared commitment to improving the lives of Inuit women and families across Canada.

Elections were held during the AGM, and the board welcomed both new and returning members:

  • Nancy Etok was acclaimed for Nunavik, Ungava.
  • Laisa Audlaluk-Watsko remains as the representative for Qikiqtani North.
  • Paige Kimiksana Kreps continues to serve as the youth, urban representative.
  • Priscilla Kukshuk was elected for the urban, southeast region.
  • Kailey Webb-Nochasak was acclaimed to represent youth, Inuit Nunangat.

Reflecting on her re-election, Nancy Etok said, “It is an honour to continue serving Inuit women at the national level. Together, we will strengthen our collective voice, advocate for the rights and well-being of Inuit women across Canada, and work to ensure their needs are prioritized.”

The AGM also saw the release of Pauktuutit’s Annual Report, which highlighted the organization’s progress over the past year. Additionally, the board introduced Pauktuutit’s new Strategic Plan, which outlines the goals and priorities for the next five years in improving the lives of Inuit women, girls, and gender-diverse Inuit.
