IQALUIT, NU February 28, 2023. Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada is pleased to announce that our satellite office in Iqaluit is now open. This is our first office in Inuit Nunangat. Having a regional office will allow us to connect with Inuit women, children, gender-diverse Inuit, and their families. The office is part of a pilot project that will pave the way toward opening regional offices in the other regions of Inuit Nunangat and will allow Pauktuutit, as the national representative organization of Inuit women in Canada, to gain a stronger understanding of the needs and priorities of Inuit women across Inuit Nunangat and amplify their voices.

The office was officially opened by current Pauktuutit President Gerri Sharpe and former President Rebecca Kudloo during a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Aqsarniit Hotel and Conference Centre in Iqaluit on Feb. 20.

As we evolve and grow, we want to continue building closer connections to the regions, to promote positive change for Inuit women and gender-diverse Inuit. Our vision is intended to solidify partnerships and expand the capacity of the Inuit women’s sector in Canada,” explains President Gerri Sharpe.

Located in the Hunters and Trappers Organization (HTO) building, this office will serve as a model for other regions. Establishing regional outreach, with a direct connection to our head office in Ottawa, will help us foster important relationships across Inuit Nunangat and Inuit Nunangiit (urban centres).

Regional offices will also provide a platform for Inuit women to come together and communicate their distinct and shared priorities toward developing an Inuit Women’s Advocacy Network and Strategy.
